Starfish Rahi! He's also partially based on a hypothetical hypersonic planform. Hence the hypersonic dash to escape predators. Apparently the problem with this shape at high speeds is the increased surface area over more conventional designs creates heating problems, however I imagine that this would be reduced underwater.
